Font Typesetting Function 13: “Discretionary Ligatures (dlig)”

I brought up “Standard Ligatures” (liga) in the previous article. In this article, I would like to introduce “Discretionary Ligatures” (dlig). The name “Discretionary Ligatures” may be difficult to understand. It may mean something like “ligature with discretion.” Oh, this may be even more difficult to understand….

While default usage is assumed in “Standard Ligatures,” optional usage is assumed in “Discretionary Ligatures.” Ornamental st ligature from Hama Mincho Italic is indicated in the figure. Apart from this, many ligatures can be called up in “Discretionary Ligatures” in this font. For those of you using TP Connect, please try them out.
